How similar is it to the book?

I just finished reading the book and am wondering how similar the movie is to the book? I want to watch it if it's a faithful adaptation.

I don't think you will be disappointed if you view the dvd. The Director followed the original closely where dialogue is concerned and developed the various characters in such a way that each one became a star in his/her own right. Witness the very numerous comments on this site, almost all of which are favourable.

Smiley's People is the second film made for television. Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy came first. Each is complete in itself and continues the search for Karla and his mole. In other words, you would do well to view TTSS first.

The third, middle novel of the series, The Honourable Schoolboy was never televised. However, listeners in Britain can listen to a dramatisation of this story on BBC-4 commencing on Sunday at 3 P.M.

Thanks. I've decided I'll watch it. I'm not too worried about watching the previous film because I have to read Smiley's People for school this year, so I decided I'll just watch that in order to gain a deeper understanding of the story.

I have read and then watched Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy last week. Is it imperative to have read The Honourable Schoolboy before reading/watching Smiley's People?

Each mini-series is complete in itself. To put it another way, The Honourable Schoolboy is not essential reading, so why not go ahead and enjoy Smiley's People?
