Franklyn Seales

I know this is a bit off subject but in real life was Franklyn Seales gay and that was how he contracted AIDS?(even though you don't have to be gay to get it).

reply

You get AIDS by screwing.

reply

Tell that to Ryan White Dumbass - people also get HIV from contaminated drug needles and tainted blood.

reply

Uh..do your homework there buddy, you get AIDS by as you so delicately put it "screwing" another person unprotected with the HIV virus yes, but also by injecting yourself with contaminated needles, having blood transfusions before they discovered the virus, you can even get it if you have a cut in your mouth and you kiss someone who has the virus and they happen to have a cut in their mouth and bleed a bit (very rare but...) If you think intercourse is the only way to get it, and it's 2006 when you posted your message...god that's sad.

reply

It wouldn't surprise me.

reply

I know he passed away in 1987 after the show ended its run. I didn't know he died of AIDS though. Too bad.

reply

Franklyn Seales Didn't pass away in 87' it was three years later and he was trying to get better (from the aids) and keep painting. But he was a homosexual.

reply

Seales is most famous for his role on Silver Spoons. He played Dexter Stuffins, business manager and family friend of the Strattons, starting in Season 2. He also did some artwork as a painter. On May 21, 1990, Seales died in Brooklyn, New York of AIDS, He was 37 years old.

reply

I guess I thought is was 1987. Maybe he was on Amen then and I got it mixed up.

reply

Yeah, he did a couple episodes of Amen, in the pilot I almost didn't even recognize him without his Dexter accent, and then he appeared in a later episode where he looked pretty sick. I haven't seen that episode since it first aired in the '80s, but I can still picture him looking so very thin wearing a trench coat and glasses.

reply

He did a terrific job opposite James Woods, in "The Onion Field". It's a movie that also has newcomer, Ted Danson, as one of the cops. Everyone is in top form, including John Savage, as the traumatized cop.

reply

I was surprised to see him in two episodes in the first season. Too bad that Leonard Lightfoot got fired, though. He was very good in this series.

reply

Why did he get fired?

reply

thanks, I thought I was the only one that appreciated his role. What a movie.

RIP Heath Ledger 1979-2008

reply

Unfortunately AIDS medicines were not what they are now in the 1980's. He could have led a very long career in Hollywood with today's medicines. And now they have medicines to proactively guard against HIV/AIDS.

reply

I found out he died a few years ago, very sad situation. Thank goodness for a better understanding of the disease, and medical advancement.

reply

I was shocked he died of AIDS. In fact, I didn't know he was dead at all until I read it somewhere.
