Diff'rent Strokes Crossover

I was reading on the "Diff'rent Strokes" boards about obvious 'spin-off' type shows like "The Facts of Life" and "Hello Larry", but I didn't know that "Silver Spoons" had any relation to "Diff'rent Strokes".

Did any of the "Silver Spoons" cast guest star on "Diff'rent Strokes" and vice versa?

How did Arnold and Ricky know eachother?

In on an early episode (season 1), Ricky is visited by Arnold (they apparently had never met previously), who's working as a reporter for his school's newpaper. He had heard about Ricky's top-notch computer skills and wants to do a story on him.

Ricky is showing Arnold the various features of his computer, when he somehow taps into a top-secret government site.

Soon afterward, a couple of FBI agents show up, and Ricky and Arnold slip out and run away, thinking they'll be arrested for treason.

The boys attempt to stowaway on a boat, but are discovered by the old captain, who convinces them to go back home.

When they return, things are smoothed over with the FBI agents (who realize that no harm was intended). Ricky agrees to show the agents how he got into the computer system, and to use his skills to help them prevent future incidents.

Edward gives Ricky a fatherly lecture ("You can always come to me about anything.", etc.). I don't remember much else happening with Arnold.

To the best of my knowledge, this was the only time any cast member of either of these two shows ever made a guest appearance on the other.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, and have a great day.

They also shared a guest star in Mr. T.

Mr T first appeared on Silver Spoons before DS.

I am not sure if I am correct about this but wasn't Diff'rent Strokes originally on NBC before it went to ABC? I was just wondering about this because they sometimes have characters cross over to another show that is a hit to sort of boost ratings.

I just thought that I would mention that.

Both Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons were NBC sitcoms, from start to finish.

Silver Spoons went into first-run syndication for the final season. Both series originally started out on NBC. And like someone else mentioned, Diff'rent Strokes moved to ABC for season 8.

I think the reason they had Gary Coleman on an episode once as Arnold was the fact that both shows were produced by the same company. Also, in that episode, the ship set I think was used the episode in Jeffersons when they went on that Mystery Cruise. Jeffersons was also from the same company.

ABC picked up Different Strokes for it's last season.

That was one of my favorite episodes of Silver Spoons.
