Doubt it.....Rhoda they were all 'adults' who did not bring home dates to their parents. They were living in their own apartments by then.
I think it's more a generalized satire of showing two 1960's 'countercultural' participants having to confront the numerous problems and contradictions they obviously had inside themselves when THEIR kids brought home a 1980's 'antiestablishment' type and wanted to date that 'rebel'.
