The Real Thing

That was a beautiful episode. No wonder "At This Moment" shot to #1.

I just re-watched it yesterday thinking that it wouldn't affect me as strongly as it did when i first saw it. I was wrong. The chemistry between Fox and Pollan was obvious and really made this one of the most powerfully romantic stories i've seen on any TV show. Not bad for a mediocre sitcom from the 80s.

It's a shame she only lasted 1 season and i always felt cheated that they wrote her off by having her get an art scholarship (or something like that). After how much they were in love, they didn't even attempt a long-distance relationship? Really takes some of the realness out of what they said to each other in The Real Thing. I think i actually would have liked it better if they would have had her die in an accident. At least then it's not like she just left him voluntarily.

Compared to this, the meet-cute between Alex and Lauren was a joke and seemed like a parody.

I wonder why Pollan never returned, considering they apparently wanted her back and she and Fox started dating before season 6 and got married before season 7. I realize she may have had other obligations, but I'd think it would only be logical for her to make another appearance on the show her husband was still on towards the end.

I've always assumed that Pollan decided against mixing her personal with her professional . If that was part of it , then clearly she made the right decision for their relationship . Too bad more Hollywood couples don't have that much respect for their personal relationships

They worked together on a couple shows after that, though.

A one episode guest shot on Spin City is not the same as an extended storyline or costarring in a movie together .
