Skippy's treatment

I used to watch this show as a teen and, in its early years, this show was meant for my generation. I was 15 in the fall of 1982 when Family Ties first aired.

I thought that Alex was cool and I definitely found Mallory nice to look at. The family wasn't anything like my own and that was definitely a refreshing change for me.

The one thing that I never liked about the show is the way that Skippy was treated by Mallory and sometimes by the whole Keaton family. I thought that Skippy's treatment, by Mallory especially, was nothing less than cruel. I understand that: this was just a TV show, I understand that it was acting, and I have played the role of nerd a time or three myself; but still, I would have told Mallory to jump in the lake. I have never understood how that was supposed to be funny.

I got the feeling that Skippy eventually discovered his self confidence after He, Alex & Mallory parted ways & lost contact with each other (as high school often do. Skippy became very successful & Then Keaton's would learn of his good fortune every now & then & maybe they would catch up @ a reunion.

You see this millions of times every day in America. The dork wants a hot girl but the hot girl makes it clear she's not interested.

Maybe Mallory started out somewhat hot but I thought as the show went on she looked awful!

Personally, I thought it was just Mallory who was annoyed by him. To me, the rest of the Keaton family tolerated him, particularly Alex, who saw him as a best friend.

As evidenced in the series, Mallory likes the bad boy type. As life goes on, Mallory's looks would fade and she realizes Skippy became a big success in his career, and he woke up and relied on his smarts to further his care while her loser boyfriend Nick is making a sub-par living. Of course, Mary was never attracted to skip in the first place, so none of the above makes any difference, lol.

Skippy seemed to be the butt of too many jokes. It frequently seemed very mean spirited.

Mallory was the butt of Alex's jokes so maybe she just duped that frustration and anger onto Skippy
