FAME originally ran from 1982-1983 on NBC. Altho it was critically acclaimed, it wasn't a ratings darling, so NBC cancelled it. It was then picked up by what was then a syndicated network(I can't remember which one), and continued to run from 1983-1987.
shareTo be syndicated meant that local stations carried the show on a state-by-state basis (it was the individual state's choice to carry the show, since a musical TV series was something unique and probably tested in certain markets better than others). So each state, plus Washington DC, aired the show 'in syndication' on their own day and time slot. After its NBC cancellation, the show was in syndication for 4 more years.
