Canada is up late watching Fame reruns. Life is a strange journey, isn't it?
Tonight is special because it's the Kids from Fame on stage in Israel. Am I the only one who feels robbed because Mrs. Sherwood isn't part of the live stage show? She could've given a live English lesson.
If I may be serious, there are times when I'm am genuinely astounded by the quality of the writing on the show. In fact, sometimes the implausible outbreaks of song and dance undermined the terrific storytelling, as in the episode when Bruno starts his job at the restaurant.
I remember years ago Bravo (a Canadian channel like MMM) was airing episodes of Fame but stopped after the third season. I hope MMM will air the entire series.
The writing of the show is excellent, although I would focus that praise on the first two seasons which i think are the best. The later seasons got a little too cheesy for me although still enjoyable.
Oh my god.. I'm so glad I'm not alone... I was hooked on this show when I was in high school in the 80s. Totally obsessed. I would stick a microphone in front of the TV and make myself cassettes of the music and listen on my walkman... I hadn't even thought of this show until I also noticed it on MMM a couple of nights ago... and here I am watching it again feeling like I am 13 and wearing braces. Wow how time flies. Not to mention boy were our clothes and hair ugly back then!
Anyone know what ever happened to Danny/Carlo? He was my favorite.
I watched it when it first came out and now I'm rewatching it 20+ years later. The funny thing is certain episodes are just not computing with me, but then a musical number will happen and I can remember every word to the song but the actual story line just isn't hitting me. A British television show did a reunion with some of the original stars Gene, Erica, Valerie, Lee , Carlo and Debbie about 3 years ago, you can find it on YouTube, sorry can't remember the link but if you put in fame reunion in the search part you might find it. Its very interesting with some amazing insight of what happened while they were filming, plus they all stand around the piano with Lee playing and try to remember some of the older songs.
Danny talks about what he is doing, he is still involved in the film scene but is more behind the camera now, though he does do the odd acting gig
bf, thanks for the youtube referral. I just watched all 6 parts of the reunion. It was excellent! Lee is demonstrably heavier, but not tragically so, and everyone else looked the same. Great attitudes, and still terrific voices. I never realized Carlo was much of a singer, but in this reunion he hit a note during Starmaker that was quite remarkable.
I thought I was the only one in Canada that watched Fame on MMM! I love it so much! Bruno is just amazing. It sucks that he leaves that the end of the third season. I bought the first season on DVD and I think it's great! I agree with the starter of this thread, they really should have had Sherwood at the concert doing an Indian Tribal dance or something.
Love each other despite our imperfections. - Amber Benson
I agree, Amber, Bruno is great. And the fact that he can't sing makes it even better. I figure nowadays his character would either have to be played by an Idol-style belter or they probably just wouldn't let him sing.
Instead, we get to see a real, prodigal player-composer on his real life creative learning curve. Love it!
