2 things I am confused about...

I hope someone on here can help me. I just finished season 1 of Fame and I was wondering about a couple of episodes. First, when Shorofsky got attacked and was hospitalized, I don't remember anyone even mentioning what really happened. We see him obviously get beaten in the dark when he was going into the office to drop a letter off at night. It never mentioned who attacked him, why, or anything. Did I just miss something? Second, after Starmaker was sung to the acting teacher, the main board member announced that the board decided to not give the school new auditorium lights but instead let them keep the acting teacher. Then, everyone is happy, including the teacher, and everyone dances in excitement. One would assume that the acting teacher would be staying now because he never refutes the offer. However, he did not come back after this and there is a new teacher in his place during the second season. I have heard that in real life that the actor playing him was dying from cancer but I don't recall an explanation on the show as to why he was no longer there. I would appreciate it if someone could help clear these two things up. Thank you!
