Irene Carr on NBC's 'Hit Me Baby 1 More Time'

Irene played the original Coco Hernandez in the pilot movie, and performed the original version of the theme song. Best known for "What a Feeling" from the movie "Flashdance", she performed that song as well as a cover version of Anastacia's "I'm Outta Love" on the June 16th edition of NBC's "Hit Me Baby 1 More Time", and won $20,000 US for her chosen charity, Women in the Arts. She was also profiled earlier in the day on "Entertainment Tonight".

hey alan,

probably just a type-o, but it's irene cara, not irene carr. and the original 1980
film was not a pilot to the television show, it was an inspired film of the performing arts school. the idea for the tv version came a couple of years later.

ms cara chose not to do the tv series because of other obligations at the time and it is well documented that she later sued for royalties from the music she performed in "FAME". therefore, by winning the lawsuit, she is not able to perform any "FAME" music in the U.S.

that's why you really never hear the original on the 80's radio stations or see her performing the song anymore.

ironically, there was a "FAME" performance at the 2005 Emmy's last night and the singer really butchered it pretty bad, what a shame, i don't even remember her name!!! it was in need of irene in a BIG way!

can't wait for the dvd of the tv series, it's gonna be awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Actually Irene sued for royalties for the song "What a feel'in" from teh movie Flashdance. She sued her record company "Warner/Electrik/Atlantica" as they had not paid her royalties on this song, which she co-wrote. Nothing to do with the Fame soundtrack as she was only the singer and didn't write the music, which she did but was not compensated for appropriately with "What a Feel'in"

Hope that helps

PS - in my opinion, Erica Gimpel will always be Coco as she gave the character depth and lushness.....Irene portrayal was very one dimensional, and she was only on screen for max 20 minutes
