Was Ted Danson envious that "Frasier" had more success than "Becker"?

... on top of the fact that Kelsey Grammer got his own sitcom while Ted had his "own" sitcom, i.e. Ted Danson was the glue that held "Cheers" together, although the show was not titled "Sam," nor was he his own boss like Kelsey Grammer was in "Frasier" (executive producer and such). While I am well-aware that he also OFFICIALLY had his own show, "Becker," that only lasted about half as long as "Frasier." In addition, as I implied in the title of this post, "Frasier" was much more relevant. Also, regarding what I said about being the boss of a sitcom, you'll notice that Ted Danson played a boss (Sam Malone) while Kelsey Grammer was in fact a boss. That's gotta sting!

Nah. Frasier should've been cancelled long before it was. Ted Danson had a nice run on Damages, CSI, among several other shows. Grammer's new shows since Frasier have all been flops.

I know that it annoys you that Frasier did so well. What evidence do you have other than your egotistical opinion?

NBC's motivation is not to please CJH, but to make money, and Frasier kept going because it was making money.

reply

Hardly.

reply

Hardly? I take it you have NBC's books from that time period and can back up your claim that Frasier was hardly making money?

reply

It's common knowledge. It was even a top 20 show the last few years. Should've been cancelled well prior to that.

I don't have this "common knowledge". Kindly elaborate. Since "Should've been cancelled" would be a financial decision, what evidence do you have on the subject.

reply

Frasier kept going because it made upper-class twits feel smarter than they actually are.

reply

By mocking them?

reply

Frasier was amazing, but Danson had a much more varied post-Cheers career than Kelsey Granmer did.

reply

Danson did some of his best work in Fargo season 2 as well as the HBO comedy show Bored To Death

reply

He could very well be jealous that the Frasier character proved to be more popular than the Sam character for that matter.

Brony who is also a Metallica and Iron Maiden fan.

Who says he's more popular?

Well, I saw in the Cheers reunion on youtube that Danson said he thought Frasier was better than Cheers or something to that effect. Blasphemy! But Frasier was poor man's Cheers in a lot of ways. And for me, while Sam was the glue for Cheers, I never thought Frasier was the glue of his own show. Niles was the best character on that show, and also Martin and Roz were better characters than Frasier.

He never said or even THOUGHT Frasier was the better show. Where in Sam Hill did you get that?

I think shows win or lose based more on the quality of writing than anything else.

reply

True. There's exceptions to every rule, though. Look at 2 Broke Girls. Lol.

When you're as well paid as these actors were, I think it's probably harder to be envious.

reply

Danson deserved his money, kwb. Grammer didn't.

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Robert Vaughn. RIP Carrie Fisher. 2016 is the worst!

In season 5, episode 5 of Becker, there is a swipe aimed at Frasier when Becker says: "Yeah... cheese and crackers, that is so pretentious. That's not me. Who do I think I am, Frasier?"

reply

"Frasier" was more successful because it was far better than "Becker".
