At first I was confused about what the big deal was that Thornton was missing some print outs on the Zoller data. What was the big deal? If the files were deleted how can you be reprinting them?? And if you’re reprinting them, why is this even a discussion?

Then I realized that he had no way of searching the data for them! Right? He only knew that some print outs were missing but he didn’t know what was on them! The files weren’t missing because no one but Thornton and Basil even knew how to operate a computer! AND in order to figure out what was missing he had to print out a second copy of hundreds of pages which were perforated lol and cross ref with the first set and see what was missing.

I had no idea computers were so rudimentary in 1988!

I thought it was strange that no one seemed to know what became of him although he was essentially vindicated. Samuels referred to him as a ghost.

Just finished viewing the Friendly Fire episode. Guess you'll see this one a bit later.

Not sure what he meant exactly by ghost other than he couldn’t be reached. He had taken a leave so why would he be around? Maybe he checked into a clinic for stress. He was really losing it but he’d thought he’d killed an innocent cop who was his partner. He didn’t know he was vindicated at that point I guess bc he couldn’t be reached.

Do you think the duck hunting comment T made at the beginning had any significance? It’s funny to me that Cagney made the sarcastic crack about getting his street smarts in Wisconsin bc I lived in Milwaukee for awhile and it was crime infested. But I guess if he’d been from there he’d of said so and not WI lol.

Also, apparently Marren set up the surveillance in order to kill Thornton but T beat him to the punch. He said “he was coming at me” and I guess he didn’t know it was Marren in the dark. But why would M be going at him and not just shoot him and then rush over and pretend it was done by someone else? He’d obviously have to have used an untraceable gun. That was sloppy imo unless I’m missing something. I know I’m going by more modern crime shows that are more sophisticated which is something I really should let go of!

I’ll be watching Friendly Fire tonight. Only 3 more episodes till the end :( It’s going to be weird to start over with Meg Foster.

Again, this was an episode where I lost a few minutes at times and things became somewhat unclear, even confusing. The duck hunting comment was one of those things I missed. Cagney's wisecracking is something I find appealing about her character. She's like the female counterpart to Law & Order's Lenny Briscoe, imo, if you're familiar with that show. Which brings me to having been unaware that we were that close to the end. I've grown quite fond of Sharon Gless as Cagney and I'm not sure how I'll react to Meg Foster.

I haven’t seen too many of Law & Order but it’s on here so I can check it out. Cagney is a well written character, both are and the actresses were great. I can see why they’d make a male counterpart to Cagney. I think Frasier was also inspired by Cagney’s parents: the crusty cop and the uptown lady. Christine took after her father though, as opposed to Frasier and Niles who were like the mother.

Speaking of characters, I can't help but think that Lacey's was based upon that of Kate Moore in this https://moviechat.org/tt0074483/The-Enforcer. It's like Moore was a springboard for Lacey, who over several seasons became more nuanced, fleshed-out, so to speak.

Btw, what did you think of Lacey in this episode? I thought she was a bit too nuts and fatalistic in her attitude. The hard slap across Michael's face was especially uncalled for. I was beginning to see her as unfit for duty.

Now I’m afraid to watch the episode. It sounds like he got out of it ugh.
Oh wait, Michael! The kid.

I haven’t seen any Dirty Harry movies. I should see that one for Tyne.

It was a very theatrical episode. Yeah, I wasn’t crazy about it.
MB certainly has her issues that really came up here. She’s usually the stable one. They mix it up. Last episode she was the one who trusted and respected Thornton and she was right. Same in the Salvadorian conspiracy theory one. Odd that she’s the lower ranking detective. But I guess Chris was more available to burn the midnight oil. Not that that should decide it but probably would be an influence.

Yeah, that slap was awful. Poor kid. If they took all the cops who committed domestic violence off the force it’d really thin out.

But I was so glad the rapist got convicted. He was so horrible.
