DVD, Season ONE??
I recently read producer Barney Rosenzweig's fascinating book about the development of this show called Cagney and Lacey and Me. As someone who has met Tyne Daly and grew up watching Cagney and Lacey, I was very much looking forward to the DVD release.
However, I am extremely disappointed that they have chosen to exclude the initial stories starring Meg Foster, and are touting this DVD as Season One (or "The True Beginning")! As we know, this is UNtrue! Whether or not Meg worked out in the role of Christine Cagney, you cannot rewrite history (especially in the wake of Rosenweig's bluntly honest book and specific references to the real first season).
The first six episodes are part of the show's evolution and legacy, for better or worse. At the very least, they could have included a bonus episode of Meg Foster's debut appearance. Unfortunately, it seems like a good opportunity for tv buffs to examine a piece of history has been wasted.
