I am LOVING watching these episodes - it's been so long and hadn't seen all of them (I was pretty young when this show first started). I am in awe once again of the incredible acting and overall production quality.
Did anyone see the special feature yet on the DVD? Sharon Gless looks especially good doesn't she? Can't believe she's in her 60s...
And Tyne looks more like Mary Beth again after years on Judging Amy with the long, grey hair.
Wish these two fine ladies would do another reunion movie - maybe as the heads of the department?
Lawrence
PS. Does anyone know which episodes won Tyne the Emmys? I would guess "Heat" and "Breakdown" for two of her 4 but would love to know for sure...
I kind of liked Sharon with her bangs and heavier as Christine better. But I guess Sharon is a bit more refined than coarse Chris, so it makes sense that Sharon would be more polished-looking than Chris. I suspect Chris actually has silver hair now unlike Sharon who still has her lemonish hair.
I rather liked Tyne and Mary Beth with the gray hair. LOVED Mary Beth's dark, dark hair of the earlier shows when she was young, but I liked that they had her gray naturally in the four re-union movies.
And I loved that they put on weight and had more wrinkles in their middle age; it just added a very natural real feel to it.
Yeah, it'd be nice if both of them were in one more re-union movie...they'd maybe be heads of their departments and maybe by then Alice would be almost 18 and would decide to be a policewoman. Chris' niece would be into acting and maybe Alice and Bridget would meet and become close friends like Chris and Mary Beth.
And also, all the precincts would have a lot more women, so Chris and Mary Beth are now much less alone than they used to be.
Also, by then, Harvey Jr. would be married and have a son and a daughter, making Mary Beth a doting grandma.
But maybe one sad part would be that Harvey Sr. has another heart attack and dies. Mary Beth would then have to cope with widowhood and Chris would be there to pull her thru that, then Mary Beth would see young adult Alice off to the police academy.
And under it all, they'd be working on a huge case maybe involving corrupt gov't officials under the Bush admin and these corrupt officials would threaten the entire NYPD and even threaten to stage a huge terrorist attack and blame Iraq for it.
It'd be Christine and Mary Beth that would bring them down, but not without a terrific fight; Mary Beth would be blown unconscious at one point and Chris would then be struggling to protect her and get those criminals. And much of the NYPD would be there for back-up, both women and men. I also had this funny thought that maybe poor Chris is also getting a cold, so she had a double whammy of making sure the unconcious Mary Beth isn't hurt further and also fighting her cold and fighting the bad officials.
Just as the criminals are being arrested, to Chris' immense relief, Mary Beth finally comes to and Chris cradles her for a while as the rest of the PD cart off the criminals. Chris tells her that the criminals have been busted and this time they have proof for their conviction. Mary Beth manages a weak semblance of a smile and starts to slip back into unconciousness again, but Chris keeps her awake until a medical crew comes.
Turns out that Mary Beth's injury is not all that serious, but she does have a mild concussion and some bruising along her spine and under doctor's orders, must rest for a few days.
By then, it's also November. Maybe it could have a second-to-last scene with them at Thanksgiving at the Cagney place; by then Mary Beth is mostly recovered and Chris is almost over that cold and the entire Lacey gang and Chris' niece are all there and toast to progress. They also toast to Alice for making it thru police academy and for her getting a position as police rookie. Mary Beth is esp. grateful that women have finally made progress, so her daughter will not have as hard a time as her mom did.
Maybe the closing scene could be Alice as a new policewoman in uniform making her first arrest, then later calling Bridget, who is in a broadway play, and them talking.
The season 1 DVD set is actually C&L season 2. If you look at the list of episodes on the box set and check the seasons listing here at imdb or at epguides.com they are from season 2. Season 1 was only 6 episodes and wasn't with Sharon (which wasn't very good)Gless. I don't know if the whole set is season 2 or has some of season 3, haven't watched it all yet.
Yeah, Sharon is a lot better at the facial expressions since both Christine and Mary Beth have such vivid, animated faces. Loved the way Christine's brows slanted so easily. It was kind of funny because Chris had this pale silvery-blond hair, yet her brows were so thick and nearly touched at the bridge of her nose when they weren't slanted. I liked that they didn't try to overpluck their brows or have them look like models or anything. I esp. loved how the producers let the women naturally gain weight, wrinkle and gain gray hairs as they got older; esp. loved Mary Beth's salt-and-pepper hair when she got older.
