Along with Seinfeld, C&L has got to be one of the most OVERRATED shows in TV history. When it's really nothing more than just another pseudo-gritty cop drama where the characters-Try-Too-Hard-To-Look-Realistic-To-Look-Realistic.
NBC had Hill Street Blues. CBS had C&L. No comparison.

But Seinfeld is brought a whole new concept to sitcom. Instead of the same crap over and over again.
No, there really was nothing original about Seinfeld at all. It was pretty much the same crap with a bunch of males and one token female who is "one of the guys."
One thing I am glad of is that they never tried to have Chris or Mary Beth kiss bum with the guys or try to become one of them; even though they were in a very male-dominated field in the backlash era, they remained true to themselves and loyal to one another and to womankind. I loved that they stayed women; that they didn't try to become "imitation men" wearing boxy suits and mannish haircuts or ingratiating themselves with guys too much; too many other shows about women in male-dominated fields make that error and Seinfeld was one of them; notice how Elaine often wore boxy men's suits and was basically nasty and distant to other women and her only friends were guys.

This can't be overrated since I don't know anyone born after it was over that even remember this at all. It's not like I Dream Of Jeannie or M*A*S*H*.

Women tend to respect other women only when they're present or when they can gain something from that. As soon as they're gone or they can profit of it they start to talk trash about each other behind the other ones back. It's kinda pathetic but women are kind of childish in that regard. I read somewhere that it has to do with women usually raising the kids and that is why nature made them simple and childish to cope better with that...

The irnony is that it was canceled not once,but twice, before the producer fingaled a renewal.
