Mary Beth's Mom

I read on a C&L website on the character bios and it said that Christine Cagney's mom passed away when she was away for college...but what about Mary Beth's mom? Has there ever been any mention of her? From what I've seen on the show so far(in mid-season 4)there's Charlie Cagney, Harvey's mom, Muriel, and Lacey's estranged father. I was hoping someone knew or could answer my question. Thank you.

Yes, Mary Beth mentions her mom in later episodes when her estranged father comes to visit. He visits when the Laceys have moved into their house on Long Island. Her father wanted to get to know his grandkids but Mary Beth was very angry and resentful because he left them when she was a child. She was in no mood to welcome her father with open arms.

She talks about how terrible it was because her mother had to work long hours to support them. Her mother's health was ruined. I don't recall if Mary Beth said when her mother passed away. It seemed as if it was a long time ago from the way she spoke. Mary Beth named her daughter Alice, her mother's name.

Thank you for the info! I just recently started watching this show a few months ago and am probably one of the youngest fans out there at 27. It's an awesome show. I have about 4 episodes left to watch in season 4 on Hulu, then going to start with seasons 5, 6, & 7.

I did watch part of an episode where Mary Beth has her daughter and vaguely remember saying that Alice was her mother's name. Also I saw one of the movies they did after the show came on not too long ago on TV..it was where her estranged father comes back into her life but this time he is very ill.

Hi, I watched this when I was in my early teens and I'm re-watching it all now, I have The TV Movie Pilot that was released on VHS years ago and the DVD box-set of Season 2, I have the rest of it taped from TV and a few Epusodes from VHS.

I'm watching Season 1 with Meg Foster and I'm on Episode 3, I watched Episode 2: "Pop Used To Work China Town" last night and Harvey mentions in one scene where Lacey is making bread that she hasn't "done that since her Mother died". I hope this helped.

I'm a young fan, too, I'm only 23. It's a GREAT TV Series!

Thank you for that information! I'm glad to know there's another young fan out there besides me.

I also have the DVD box set of season 2 and am crossing my fingers that the other seasons will be released soon as well as the TV movie pilot. Until then, I'm catching up on Hulu. Started watching season 6 tonight!

You're very welcome! This show has LOTS of fans - young and old - I think Harvey Lacey is one of my favourites, but I love Cagney and Lacey aswell!

Mary Beth's mom also smoked, which caused her to die of lung cancer and emphezema. It devastated poor Mary Beth.

I recently saw one eppie where Mary Beth said that often when her mother cried, Mary Beth would cry also...not surprising since Mary Beth is very sensitive and compassionate.

Christine + Mary Beth forever
