Lacey's daughter Alice Christine

There's an episode where Cagney reveals that Lacey told her co-workers about the pregnancy at the same time, rather than telling Chris first, and Cagney's clearly upset by that and Lacey doesn't seem to know what to say. Then later, Lacey names the baby Alice Christine. Was it out of guilt? Was it planned that way all along? I don't think it's ever discussed on the show, but I think it's odd that Lacey thinks enough of her partner to name her baby after her, but doesn't think to tell Chris about the pregnancy before she tells the others.

Mary Beth gave Alice the middle name "Christine" in part because Chris had gone to serious (crazy) extremes to get the laboring MB to the hospital in time. Apparently the incident soldified their real friendship at that point. (They had some continuity issues during the course of the program.)

On one hand, I can imagine Mary Beth being so excited and rushing into the squad room and telling everyone she was pregnant, just blurting it out. On the other hand, I can't imagine her not telling Chris before she tells her other co-workers, so I can definitely see Chris being upset by that. I always thought naming Alice after Chris was a bit of a makeup to Cagney.
