It's one of the great spoofs of all time. I saw it when it first hit the video rental scene, and I also think I caught it on HBO, but 'am not sure. This certainly belongs in any respectable comedy DVD collection.
As to whether or not it'll come out is anyone's guess. I think it was an independent production, but again I'm not sure.
I first saw this movie in 1986 when a friend and I took it upon ourselves to watch EVERY movie in his family's video store.
It was mostly a painful experience, one that forged me into a die hard MST3K fan, but it did turn up a few gems. I consider 'Student Bodies' to be one of the gems.
The author retains ownership over his work (contract depending). If he dies then his estate retains ownership until the copyright expiration (100 years in the United States, or to the end of the lives of the owner's children).
After having rented this movie several times from a Blockbuster, I happened to see a televised version on a local FOX affiliate late at night. And I SWEAR (though I have no proof) that in the televised version BERTHA says, "My Mom found my diaphragm... She turned it into a birdbath." This does not appear in the VHS version. I was probably 15 years old at the time, and I remember thinking "I don't know what a diaphragm is, but I sure know it's funny!"
I taped it one night (oddly I rememebered the date being Friday, May the 13th EEK)and noticed a couple of scenes that weren't in the final cut. one of them was the diaphragm monologue, then there was a scene after the two in the graveyard were killed, and finally a scene with Mumsley, Peters, and then Toby(who had one of the best lines in the cut scene and here it is):
Peters: why are you the only girl in shop class?
Toby: I made a mistake when I signed up for the course...I thought it would be more like shopping, I didn't expect to make horsehead bookends all the time.
i just got done watching this, & i thought there were some funny moments. don't get me wrong. the kills were pretty creative to be honest, the decision NOT to do nudity was an odd one i'll give you that. having the guys all get killed by garbage bags is just plain stupid if ya ask me.
as for the people saying "Scream" was inspired by this? i'm sorry i just can't see it. "Scream' is easily one of my favorite horror films of all time. that to me has always been pretty much a tribute to horror films. i don't think we needed to get 4 of them but than what the hell do i know? anyways,
other than this film is? i thought it was terrible. the acting wasn't bad some fo the acting was decent some was terrible. i mean i'll NEVER watch it EVER again that's for damn sure. but it at least killed some time.
