why is this rated R??

i seen this before and didnt see why it was rated R?

reply

Because of this announcement half way through the movie.

Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, in order to achieve an "R" rating today, a motion picture must contain full frontal nudity, graphic violence, or an explicit reference to the sex act. Since this film has none of those, and since research has proven that R-rated films are by far the most popular with the moviegoing public, the producers of this motion picture have asked me to take this opportunity to say *beep* you."

thanks.. they could have thrown in some t&a a little

reply

So did you just happen to get up and go to the bathroom during that scene, or what?

reply

If there is no t&a, why is this even worth watching.

reply

By adding the F word scene, they EARNED an R rating, supposedly to draw more interest in the movie.

reply

This is one of the lightest R ratings ever.

You mean to tell me a SINGLE F bomb garnered an R rating in 1981? ONE lousy F Bomb??? WOW

Well, Jack Torrance, they pretty much asked for it, didn't they? If I worked on the board of CARA and I got submitted a film with that scene in it, I'd laugh and then I'd vote to give it an "R" myself. It was what they wanted, after all. And, yes, one lousy F bomb, when used in a sexual connotation, triggered an "R" back then. Not now. But at the time. Some films in the early '80s were able to use it more than once, in a non-sexual connotation, and slide by with a "PG" (though "Mommie Dearest" and "Terms of Endearment" had to fight, and win appeals, to get there.)

You think that's silly? Seen "Wacko"? It was originally submitted to the MPAA a little after "Student Bodies'" theatrical release and was given an "R." No nudity. No sex. Nothing worse than words starting with "S" and "A." The "R" rating was strictly given for sexual content pertaining to covered-up female breasts. The director idiotically refused the "R" and then hacked up his picture to get a "PG." (I believe he took out something like 9 minutes.) A year and a half later, when the tried to get the "R" rating back, his director's cut with the breast scenes reinserted received a "PG" this time. They wouldn't give him the "R" the same cut originally got. LOL! In order to get re-rated "R", he was told to overdub one lousy instance of "F Bomb" into it. Apparently, he must have seen "Student Bodies."
