I swear Keaton was a dead ringer to Katharine Hepburn in this film! Everytime I saw Keaton presence on screen, I saw Hepburn through my eyes!

Interesting! That would explain why Hepburn won the Academy Award that year instead of Keaton. Maybe the voters thought the same as you and gave Hepburn their votes and not Keaton, despite Hepburn's role in "On Golden Pond" (for which she won the Oscar the same year "Reds" was in competition) was merely a supporting role...
shareThe academy voters must have been a little confused by the comparison and accidently voted for the wrong best Hepburn performance. They must've seen red(s), when they realized the mistake.
