sharePerhaps because all that was in a "historical" context, or they figured it'd be suitable for older members of the family (say, ages 13 up).
shareAgreed, this is the most hilarious PG I've ever seen. It's got a disturbingly long topless scene and right out of nowhere, Cock and balls! I guess if it happened in the pre-teens it's suitable for pre-teens.
shareI would guess that, in spite of all the attributes you mentioned, it still got a "PG" rating (that was back in 1981). Which qualifies it for HBO Family, as they won't show anything with an "R" rating. Today, it would get a "PG-13," just like Titanic. And, that would still qualify it to run on HBO Family.
HBO and Showtime used to have a policy that no "R" rated films would be shown in the daytime. Showtime apparently dropped that policy a while back, but HBO (the main channel) still keeps it. The other HBOs (except Family) show "R" rated films at all times.
BRING OUT SEASON THREE OF "ONCE AND AGAIN" ON DVD!
