EDITED DVD?????

Say it isn't so! I just read the DVD release removed the topless scenes of Elizabeth McGovern......unbelievable. Just unbelievable. What is the deal with the MPAA? Don't they watch TV? Kids can watch people eating buffalo testicles at 8 PM on TV, but a brief scene of a beautiful woman who happens to be topless is edited out of a DVD that PEOPLE BUY (and the reason she is topless is important to the movie--she is so caught up in the money she may get that she lets her robe slip off!)

I don't know what the MPAA has against Milos Foreman. The Director's Cut of Amadeus (originally rated PG) got an R because of a bit of nudity as well.

I will not be buying the DVD of Ragtime after all. My VHS copy is worn to the bone, but that will do for now.

Well I gotta go now Duane.....I'm due back on the planet Earth

It isn't so! At least not on the ones that I saw. I own a copy of the DVD which contains the nude scene and I rented a different edition (don't ask why) which also had this scene. So I'm not sure which DVD are you talking about, but you should look into it because I think you've been misinformed.

I just bought a copy of the movie from Amazon and the nude scene is in there. This was the first time that I saw the movie so I can't say if any other scenes were deleted. It did include one long deleted scene that includes another nude scene of the same girl, although it has the blur mark over the private areas. Also it has been changed to black and white, which looks kind of cool.

The deleted scene with Emma Goldman and Evelyn Nesbit wasn't changed to black and white. That was just the only version available.

In any case, McGovern (Nesbit) is nude multiple times on the DVD. Please buy it. The featurette on the making of the film is worth the cost.

Thank goodness it's still there!

Hi!

Sometimes when a scene is "deleted" it is simply a sign of a bad DVD. I had a new DVD of "The Pianist" and the scene where he plays to the Nazi General was totally gone. It wasn't deleted, just a bad DVD. I took it back and was given a new one - no questions asked. It contained the entire movie. Seems this can happen and particularly if you buy a "bargain" DVD as I have found that the quality of the disc is "thinner" (cheaper material) and often has deleted areas known as "skips" where the movie was recorded, but just didn't take. Much like a scratch on a CD. See if you can return the DVD for an exchange. Hope this helps.

Don't know how this story got started that the DVD is edited. I saw Ragtime theatrically upon its original release and was waiting anxiously for the DVD and bought it right away when it came out. The version on the DVD is identical to the theatrical version I saw. No cuts that I am aware of. Buy without hesitation!
