Nope. The movie covers an interval well before hostilities.

We see a news headline at the end stating a war declaration, but that's not really too informative. I thought that was WWI

I believe it was the Spanish-American war. The movie starts in 1906. It doesn't cover a decade.

The Spanish-American war was over by 1906. It lasted less than one year, 1898.
