just watched the full version

it is streaming on AMC+. I am finding it hard to describe. In some ways it is a masterpiece and some ways it is ridiculous. There are scenes where Isabelle Adjani is so over the top, but then she gives an Oscar worthy performance during the monologue she gives when being filmed by Heinrich. Heinrich's character is totally absurd. I understand why Anna would act crazy in certain scenes, but he didn't make any sense. Mark is almost equally absurd. I think the ending didn't fit. I also believe that if this was made as a straight non-horror movie about divorce it would be highly regarded.

Very well said, I must say! I waited a long time to see this movie and when I finally saw it, I was so disappointed! I did not find it to be anything like I had heard. Personally I found most of it ridiculous. You're 100% right in that the ending didn't fit.

At some point I'll probably watch it again and maybe I'll like it better the second time, without having the extremely high expectations for it that I had the first viewing.

Your critique of this film is exactly why I have reservations about watching it.

I love Sam Neil, and usually check out his various films and I was going back through his filmography and this particular film stood out to me... I kept (and keep) reading about it, the director, the inspiration behind it, and watched various interpretations of certain scenes from content creators, but I just haven't been compelled enough to sit through the entire thing.

I think I'm more fascinated by the subject matter than the actual film itself, and so this will probably be one of those films where the closest I'll get to it is having it on my watchlist and reading the various reviews/critiques people leave of it across message boards and forums.
