Any film recommendations for people who enjoy this movie's atmosphere?

I recently saw Possession (1981) and I really enjoy films with this kind of dark, strange and uncanny atmosphere, even if I'm not the biggest fan of this movie in particular. Can anyone recommend some similar films for me to check out? I'm looking for more horror or psychological thriller films that have a similar tone or atmosphere to Possession, Videodrome (1983), Gate of Flesh (1964) etc. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I hated this movie. But aspects of it did strongly remind me of Hellraiser, a movie that I loved. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Are you talking about the original or the remake? I think I have the same feeling about the original Hellraiser that you do about this movie 😂. I still like it's style though and I agree that the tone is similar, so if anything else comes to mind, I'd like to hear it.

I can't say I'm in any kind of rush to rewatch either film.

May I ask what cut of the film you saw? The 2 hour cut or one of the 81 to 97 minute versions? The cuts with the lower run time are notoriously bad.

I'm usually not much of a horror fan, but for a similar "fever dream" vibe as this I'd suggest, off the top of my head:

Spider (2002)
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2011)
Strange Factories (2013)
The Rambler (2013)
Possum (2018)

It seems like only non-horror fans have replied to the post 🤣. Not to say that I don't appreciate the suggestions, because I do, but I'd also like to hear from some horror fans.
