Apect ratio
Anyone know whether the aspect ratio listed in this entry is correct? The copy that I have is 1.33:1.

shareI saw a theatrical showing of Pixote way back in the early 1980s, and it was definitely shown in widescreen. Sooooo, yes, the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, as shown here on IMDb, is correct. I can't imagine that the director—Hector Babenco—would have had any valid reason at all for filming this in full-screen (1.33:1).
As of today, 16 August 2009, there are 12 DVD copies of Pixote available for purchase at Amazon.com. Three of these copies are new, 8 are used, and 1 is a "collectible." However, none of the listings for these 12 copies mentions anything about the aspect ratio. It's been my experience that, when the seller fails to mention the aspect ratio, the DVD being sold/auctioned is, almost always, the full-screen version. I would never, ever buy a full-screen version (if the film was shot and available for purchase in widescreen), because such a full-screen version is nothing less than censorship at work.
¿Thoughts, anyone?
