I think it's abandonment issues or general isolation/loneliness. They packed a lot into the character of the son, and it was hard to tell what to make of him. I at first thought he was Roz Kelly's brother because they seem close in age.
shareWell, if you noticed when the son was first introduced, Diane aka Blaze kissed him on the lips and it wasn't a son to mother kiss. I mean the actor was kinda hot back 30 years ago, but I'm shocked no one caught on to that.
Now I honestly think that Richard should have been the stepfather, not the father, because the actor was 35 years old at the time of the movie and the son looked too old. Plus, Blaze and Richard didn't seem like the type to be married for no longer than 5 years.
