Still the greatest action movie EVER
(and light years ahead of that Tom Hardy garbage)

Amen!
😎
One of the best yes and one of my favourite movies, BUT Fury Road is just as good.

The Road Warrior also had extremely stiff competition in the realm of action and sci-fi films. That year you also had The Thing, ET, Blade Runner, Star Trek II, Poltergeist, Tron, and Conan the Barbarian. Great year! By comparison, Mad Max Fury Road seemed all the better because action movies had turned to shit by then. I think Fury Road is a very good and entertaining film, but it shines mainly due to the relatively weak competition over the prior couple of decades. It was a breath of fresh air that was a bit overrated because of that.

I will likely never rewatch Fury Road; once was enough.
Mad Max 2 is a timeless classic with unbelievably tense action scenes and an awesome pace. It's an all-around perfect film for what it aims to be.
Fury Road was both bloated and barren, which is the worst kind of action film to be.
But you're 100% correct that the competition is so terribly anemic that Fury Road looked "amazing" to a lot of people starved for a half-way decent action film.
I'm not gonna go into every little detail about what I don't like about Fury Road, there's too many things but I've seen it a couple of times, and both times, I just didn't care when Furiosa killed Immortan Joe.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch Road Warrior, it's always an adrenaline rush seeing Humungous and Wez die.
I very much enjoyed Fury Road (and Furiosa, which I finally got around to seeing last week.) But every time some dingus says "Fury Road is the best Mad Max movie" an angel gets shit on and set on fire.
