Soundtrack!?

I was young when this movie came out and was wondering if anyone knows if there was EVER a soundtrack released on LP? The music in this movie is phenomenal and I would die to have it in stereo and without all the movie dialoge over it. Barry did an amazing job. He also did the music for Xanadu and The Warriors (no suprises there). A CD soundtrack for this forgetten movie would be grand.

It seems that a soundtrack has been released on LP in 1982, on the Warner Bros. label. The catalogue number should read like this: Warners PRO-A991
Note that this is secondhand information; I've never seen or read about the album myself.

'All music is folk music. I ain't never heard no horse sing no song' - Louis Armstrong

another great movie soundtrack by barry d is 'stick' with burt reynolds. you'll love the music. the song by kim carnes 'looker' is easily found on the net (kazaalite etc...) its a great song that barry wrote for the film.

check this out http://rrz2fbz.voteornot.org/

reply

kim carnes is not the performer at the movie. it's sue dey. kim had covered it on her album. i'm still looking for that original song, if not i'll try to rip it from the vhs, but the whole soundtrack would be nice :/

reply

The proformer is Sue Saad not Sue Dey. Sue Dey was one of the girls in the movie.

reply

great soundtrack wish they would release a cd of it

reply

Why wasn't Kim Carnes version of the song "Looker" ever released?

reply

Hi,

The promotional single is available on Ebay I just purchased one same song is on both sides, b side maybe a instrumental just got it. Search under Sue Saad Looker you should see it. Price is $18.00 plus 2.80 shipping the guy has 8 available.

reply

Hi,

Me too. Can you make a copy of the "Looker" soundtrack in any format? I already have the Kim Carnes CD with the single vocal track which is good but not the original.

reply

I have never seen an LP of this soundtrack and I worked in the soundtrack industry for many years. Like the infamous 'Keep' LP from Tangerine Dream...I would love to see some proof of this LP's existance. I composed a version of my own to satisfy my need for this theme..you can listen to it here...it's probably the closest you'll ever get to having the film music: http://www.medievalfantasy.com/iflookscouldkill.mp3

It's a nice and long theme, just like in the film. Go ahead and turn on a smoke machine and strobe light. See if it doesn't put you in Albert Finney's skin, heh.

reply

Hats off to you my friend. That was an EXCELLENT cover. If you only knew how many afternoons I spent on my little Casio as a teenager pounding out that eight-note motif...LOL! So...who are you and what soundtracks have you worked on?

OK. Here's the deal. There was never a soundtrack for LOOKER either on vinyl or cd. Anyone who has one made it themselves. Sue Saad did 2 songs in the movie - "Looker" and "High Wire". Neither song is on the only album released by Sue saad and the Next. However Warner Brothers Records pressed a promotional single that was given out to radio stations (Warner Bros. #49851) with the song on the A side and an instrumental version on the B side. I know this to be fact because I own a copy of the single.

"We can't stop here. This is bat country!"

reply

A band called the Nick Atoms covered Looker, it can be downloaded at TheNickAtoms.com. Sadly they've recently broken up.

reply

That website no longer exists.

"We can't stop here. This is bat country!"

reply

Damnit, I hadn't been there for a while, and like I said they just brokeup. I know the bass player though, so check back in a few days.

reply

Wow-
I'm so happy to knkow that I'm not the only person on the planet whol loved this movie AND it's soundtrack. I loved em both and was beginning to think that I was alone in this-
They both seemed to get "The bum's rush" from the studios- but in fairness, they didn't market soundtracks then like they do now.
So, who again has the promo vinyl ?

The Nick Atoms version is used in a video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBzAyjqIHm8.

@Ratinik: I appreciate your generosity, in making this rip available!

I tried to find the soundtrack once upon a time, with no luck.

Thanks again!

BTW: This one track "if looks could kill" does not appear on Allmusic.com
anywhere....what else do you know about this track?

I suspect that it was composed by Michael Boddicker

Can anyone point to a website or other source of info on the music of Looker?

TIA, in any case.

reply

Thank's for the MP3, Rakinik!

This is GREAT electronica!

How did you do this? Did you use the movie scene it was in as a guide for your cover version?

Methinks Eddie Van Halen 'cribbed' the 'opening' of it as inspiration for the '1984' intro on the album of the same name. The uncut version is way longer (about half an hour if I remember right) than what's on the album. He was 'messing around' on the synth and came up with it. :)

P.S. Look up Jason Walton Graves. He composes top drawer synth-based orchestral music.

When John Wiliams passes away, he could be his successor -- listen to Grave's 'The Sinister March' for proof!

I want that song also as I am a fan of the movie.

Does anyone know if High Wire by Sue Saad was ever released.

From the snippet of it you hear in Looker it sounds like a pretty cool song.

"Not The Gold!!" - Augustus Steranko.

I have that promo vinyl. But is there a variant?

Some have a paper jacket, a green and white stylized image of Sue Saad on the cover. I have just a plain brown paper jacket. Now was that because the original cover was lost or was there a second cover?

My copy has the song twice; in stereo on Side A and mono on Side B. Are we talking about the same single?

I bought this a few years back, I knew it was hard to find. Saw a good price and snagged it (mint). And I don't have a record player.

I would love to get a copy of the soundtrack. Well, that and "Night Of The Comet".

reply

There are three versions of that single.

I was cleaning my bookmarks and found the link I used to buy that 45. Interesting.

I was a huge Sue Saad [and the Next] fan and have their only LP album. It has been many years since I’ve gone thru my vinyl collection but I know I also have the Looker theme song on LP. It may have been an album with various movie themes. Like I said, it’s been many years. If/when I have some time I will check and post whatever I find.

I love this soundtrack so much. When I was a little kid I held my tape recorder up to the tv speaker so I could record it. I played it while I brushed my teeth in the morning.

Thanks for the link to the If Looks Could Kill version, it really does sound so much like the movie! I'm listening to it right now and loving it.

Here is all I know about the soundtrack and the singles:
There is a promo 12" by Sue Saad for "Looker" with the 3:45 vocal version on both sides. I own this one. It is in a white cardboard sleeve with the artist title and time on it. It does state it is from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Looker, implying that at least a soundtrack was planned.
According to Discogs.com, there was a 7" from Sue Saad for "Looker" released by WEA in the Netherlands which had "High Wire" as the B-Side.
The one that posted the catalogue number for the soundtrack, if that's the number, it's a promo. I don't know if a commercial LP was released and have never seen a promo LP either

cool..thanks for that info. I guess I'll ebay it.
