Apart from the early solid and shaded CGI used there were also ideas way ahead of their time. The idea of 3d scanning a complex shape like a human body by means of a laser came to reality in about the late '90s! Also digital eye pupil-tracking came at least a decade later after Crichton thought of writing about it. I am sure he always kept an eye on scientific mags and what the universities were researching but still.. Good 80s movie!
