It was probably made about 10 years too early
I happened upon Looker the other day and DVRed it because I vividly remember watching this in my dorm room 25 years ago and my friends and I talking about it for hours.
Obviously it doesn't really hold up with ham-handed visuals and a murky-feeling sound quality, but it's still an amazing film because it was so prescient. Half of the things they talk about are either being done now or are close to being possible. I work in media and sometimes I'll be spooked by just how invasive some of the technology is.
If this movie was made with a bigger budget and about 10 years after it was done, special effects would have caught up and it would be a classic. The fact that it was done in 1981 makes it incredible but it is difficult to watch with the technical issues.
The A-list actors do a good job though and seem to be having fun, and the women are timelessly beautiful. It's still worth watching for many reasons.
