This was a bit ahead of its time...
... in its very sympathetic portrayal of the gay couple in it. It was wasn't a big issue and probably only a sub-sub-plot in the film but the moment the herald character yells "YES" always makes me smile.
It reminds me of the way Richard Curtis often has minority characters in his films (e.g. gay, in a wheelchair, deaf etc) but never in a preachy way. Simply that the film is an attempted reflection of real life and real life has many people just like them.
