Dude, he had Vixie, his love interest. He was content enough. Plus, Big Mama could always pay him a visit.
shareThe ending was actually very respectable and true to the entire point of the movie.
People change, and there's nothing you can do about it.
It's simple as that.
But in the end, their friendship does shine through.
Everything was content.
And they'll always have the memories.
And each other in their hearts.
I hate the stupid kids that came from The-N.com.
Grow a brain.
Well said.

In the book the both ended up dead so don't be sad this was much better
shareThey died? OMG I would've killed myself if that happened in the movie
Sweet Jeepers...
Actually I think that Tod sure will see Copper and Widow Tweed now and then. Amos would allow him to see Copper and Tweed because he isn't such a bastard after all and at the end he forgives Tod and befriends Widow Tweed. So why shouldn't he visit them once in a while?
Sweet Jeepers...
No doubt about that.
shareYes, and Pat Buttram's character dies from the fall off the train trestle and Amos Slade becomes an alchoholic. Depressing as the movie's end is in this day and age where someone says "Can't we all get along" and they all do except if he looks like Gaston, it's MUCH happier than the book.

Hey i came across your reply on this post and i never knew there was a book so i looked it up, like the summary, and oh my god it sounds so sad... especially the ending *spoilers...maybe* where the master kills his own dog.
Thanks for bringing up the book, i may have to order it from my local library.

Well, in the book, Tod and Copper aren't what you'd really call friends other than mutual desire to one up each other when Copper hunts Tod.
shareI guess the ending showed that they were friends who risked their lives to save each other but knew they could never be true friends because of the circumstances.

I would like to think they could visit...but I think, from the way the movie ended, they were never to see each other again. Shows the tragedy.
"We pretty much make our living on crazy."

Bingo.
There was actually a deleted conversation between Tod and Copper just after Amos decided not to shoot...
COPPER: So I guess we’re friends then?
TOD: Yeah. It’s gonna take more than you trying to murder me and Vixie to change that.
COPPER: Cool. So... I’m heading back home...
TOD: I guess I’ll see ya ‘round then.
COPPER: Oh. I was kinda hoping you’d come too... you know, we could frolic like old times and stuff?
TOD: Copper, you can go home with Amos if you want. But I’m going *this* way to get some.
COPPER: Get some what?
TOD: I'm not sure, but I'm sure It'll be a lot of fun finding out.

Where did you found that out?
shareHow did you get that info?

The ending is perfect..
Just for a fan idea, but there was a vid I did and uploaded to mediafire that was techincally a small fan edit. It's the climax slightly hightened. Let me know what you think.
