The ending...

So there's the silhouettes of Tod and bride looking down on Copper's home, his behaviour suggesting yearning. Then there's this echo: "Copper, you're my best friend." And I'm thinking "No, no, no, you can't do this to me". But my prayers remained unanswered and it continued: "And you're mine too, Tod. And we'll always be friends forever. Won't we? Yeah, forever.", and my heart seemed like to tear itself open. Real tears came from my eyes. And then there was the title card "The End". Nothing more. This is the end, beautiful friend. This is the end, my only friend, the end. Of our elaborate plans, the end. Of everything that stands, the end. No safety nor surprise, the end. I'll never look into your eyes again. That was what the film left me with.

8/10, left me completely broken.

I feel the same way!

Such a sad film in many ways. The end is so bitter sweet.

I think what the ending means is that even if Tod and Copper won't be playing together anymore, they're still friends -- just in a different way.

It's a very bittersweet ending.

"See? He can be a real sweetheart once you get to know him."-Fluttershy

Goodbye may seem like forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my hearts the memory...and their you'll always be

That's ultimately the message of the film... people grow up, people change, and sometimes friendships end...but the memories last forever. Copper and Tod will always have the memories of their childhood together, but life ultimately goes on.
