Shouldn't this take place in 1998?

Damien was born in 1966 correct? So they say he's 32 in this movie so shouldn't the year be 1998? They also mentioned he took over for Thorn Industries in 1971. Was he 5?

Love this movie watching it now , you make a good point, being the son of the devil maybe he skipped a few years , but seriously this is a big flaw, wonder why this wasn't mentioned , the writers have a big boo boo here

The entire timeline doesn't make sense. According the first film, Damien was born in the seventies.

They changed it to the fifties. Omen two is placed in the late sixities early seventies and this one in the year the film is set.

It would've made perfect sense for the film to be set in the late 90's to 2000. Millenium coming, rise of the Prince of Darkness and to boot, in keeping with the original timeline.

There would have been NO need to make it look futuristic, as very little visual progress has been made in society, but that's just hindsight. They could even explain the stagnation as the effect of the Antichrist in the world. But too late now, I guess.
