i bought the beyond dvd thinking that the 7 doors of death copy i had was edited. the 7 doors of death - diamond release is actually uncut, but not anamorphic. just thought id clear up what is commonly misstated on the net.
Well in any case the Grindhouse version is still the one to pick up, the extras are pretty cool and the transfer is visibly cleaner. Having stated that I'm really shocked it is unedited. I also bet the diamond release was cheaper than what I paid for the Grindhouse edition so that ain't too shabby.
The Diamond version that I had was about five minutes shorter; it was also a crappy transfer and only had four chapter stops. Buy the Anchor Bay version (but the deluxe edition was a waste except for the lobby cards)-g.p.
We've suffered for our art; now it's your turn- Flipper
id definitely recommend getting one of the copies with the better transfer, i dont regret buying the grindhouse release at all.
i did watch the grindhouse release & diamond release side by side and apart from the very first shot, which is a couple second shot of the outside of the hotel, there was no difference content wise.
the diamond version did run faster and made it seem like it was shorter, which is why i decided to watch both versions side by side.
Er, yes there is, for a start, the title 'the beyond' is changed to 'seven doors of death', Fulci is given an american name, Louis Fuller IIRC, and there are a few music cues that are different IIRC.
