Princess? (possible spoiler)

What happened to the princess? Was she the women on the table that the baby dragons were chewing on? Im mean, he didnt even see if she was alive if that was her. She definatly didnt seem very dead to me, and no one ever speaks of her again. Oh well. Does anyone have an answer on what happened to her?

WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD!

Yeah, it's pretty awful if you read the original script. First he finds her little royal slipper,(it's made clear it's the Princess's in the script directions, and that the corpse is hers) then all the disgusting animals feeding on her. It totally sucks, because the Princess was so noble, and you feel like crap about how they just blow her off. It would have been nice if he could have saved her, and built up the foundation of myth. It was such a despressing movie, all in all...but wonderful theme music.

Ah, well.

And truly great composers re-cycle...

When that rancid SOB Stanley Kubrick trashed North's original score for 2001 (without ever telling him his music would never be used, I might add), North held onto the score, re-used major portions of it for SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN and, most notably, the main theme for DRAGONSLAYER.

It's also worth noting that Liberace's 30 second riffle of the Dragonslayer Theme at the Academy Awards broadcast has been the only public performance of North's score to date.

Tragic, ain't it?

I liked how the princess died, it made it more real and not so contrived. Sometimes when someone makes a noble sacrifice, they go through with it, and that made it more meaningful.

reply

Yes. Her dying gave the movie much more depth and realness than it would have had without it.

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?

This is a really old thread :) So, I doubt I'll get a responce. Anyway, I as watching a documentary about dragons on the History channel...or some such channel. It made me think of this film. I sort of liked it....well, not really. It did stay with me for years after seeing it. The main reason I have always remembered it was because of the fate of the princess. I can undertand why she thought she had to die, but I felt bad for her. If I remember correctly, her father, the king, was fixing the lottery so her name would never be drawn. So, it wasn't her fault that she never was in danger of the dragon. However, she was noble, and wanted to make things right for all those years when innocent girls died in her place. It wasn't so much that she sacrificed herself, as the way the dragon slayer and his pals just went on with their business and kinda totally forgot about the princess. A few teary eyes would have been nice. Anyway, I felt sorry for her, and no one else in the film seemed to care...so, that kinda made me hate this film. It was a tad depressing. But, the dragon was pretty cool looking for the time :)

Nothing really to add, but you did get a response my friend... a year later almost.
