Galen never manages to save her right? Or did I miss something?

You missed something! They show the baby dragons eating her before Galen kills them.

Actually now that you mentioned it, I remember. It's kind of unexpected right? I thought he would save her for sure.

Initially he does by killing the captain of the guard. But she doesn't run when Galen frees her. She goes down into the dragon's lair, where she becomes supper for the kiddies

Killed in the cave somehow and partly eaten by dragon pups. The brunette heroine discovers her corpse but we only get a glimpse of it.
