Why typical Disney silly movies like, for example, Mary Poppins, gets higher ratings than really excellent movies like Dragonslayer or 20000 Leagues Under the Sea?
Why typical Disney silly movies like, for example, Mary Poppins, gets higher ratings than really excellent movies like Dragonslayer or 20000 Leagues Under the Sea?
More people know about them, and they're childhood favorites. So people see them through rose glasses.

shareEhh...I guess that's true for a lot of people.
I think most people don't have very high discerning tastes, though they recognize quality when they see it.
"Dragonslayer" was a product of teenagers who came of age in the 60s, and witnessed a lot of turmoil in the US. So they made a film about a corrupt government trying to appease a monster in what was probably the hardest era to live in for mankind, the Dark Ages.
As for preferring something of quality over a childhood favorite ... possibly. I think it depends on the person.
