Why did some of them sound American?

A couple of the actors didn't even try to hide their accents. What was the reasoning behind this creative choice?

Also, most everyone was speaking English...which didn't even exist.

Because it's a lazily-made turd of a film.

Either that, or it takes place in the future, rather than the past.

11... 92... 12...

Who cares? Performances are fine. In a fantasy film more slack is taken with elements like this (see LOTR, etc.)
