Terrible Soldiers (SPOILERS)

With the exception of Thallo who has moments of glory, what was with the bad soldiering?

Their efforts at stabbing the 2-headed dog were laughable (and their Samurai warrior cries didn't help either), and how the hell did Soldier 1 die - he was just pushed over by the dog wasn't he? I saw no savaging or biting...

Soldier 2 was unlucky I suppose, but Soldier 3 looked at Medusa even though he was (very clearly) told not too...

Soldier 4 wasn't doing too well with the scorpion, so Calibos took pity on him and acted as a catalyst for his dastardly death. His scorpion had clearly had enough of such a poor challenge, so decided to quit the battle after ths guy.
