Danae's sick Father

I have loved this movie from childhood. One thing that always disturbed me- Danae's Father (Acrisius?) He locked her away in a tower to keep her from the sight of all other men....then when he discovers that she had been intimate with someone, resulting in pregnancy, he condemns her to death in essence (by forcing her and the child into a trunk, and sending it out to sea). Do you think it was implied that he had incestuous feelings for her? Sort of like how Tony Montana is insanely jealous of any man that looks at his baby sister in "Scarface"?

Oh....that explains it. Sound almost like Oedipus Rex, the futility of trying to escape your fate.

That seems to be the idea in the movie. In the myth, however, it was foretold that his grandson would kill him, and that is his motive for trying to keep her away from men.
