why no Thallo vrs. medusa?

When P crossed the river stix to claim Medusas head why did Thallo stay behind and not help? P brought 3 soliders to assist, why wasnt Thallo one of them?

He likely wanted Thallo to remain and watch over their camp. The mission to slay Medusa didn't need two commanders.

If Perseus failed, he could protect Andromeda on the return trip.

That answer makes the most sense but if he failed, Andromeda would die anyway. Thslos would increase perseuses chance to kill mrdusea, I'd think.
