Did the climax of the film CARRIE(1976) inspire the Medusa scene?

I just watched the dvd of the original CARRIE(1976)
and was wondering if the climax had inspired Ray Harryhausen
to film the scenes with Medusa in his film?

reply

I am not sure, though I do however doubt it. Ray Harryhausen was not a connoisseur of modern day horror films. In Ray's book, he states the following:

Grotesque shadows on the chamber's walls and columns herald the arrival of Medusa, and when she finally appears in full frame, her face is lit with what I call Joan Crawford lighting. If you look at many of her films, for example MILDRED PIERCE, you will notice that Crawford moves in and out of shadows, or when stationary has a light across only her eyes.
