Lets be Honest. This isnt any better than the 2010 verson.

And really you must have nostalgia blinders on not to see it. Im not going to say the 2010 version is great or better. But I would say this isn't even remotely great. For one the story is poor and cheesy. Even the acting isn't all that good from even great actors like Burgess Meredith. I think the only ones who stand out is Maggie Smith and Neil McCarthy as Calibos. And Harry Hamlin isn't much better than Sam Willington. The way I see it. Either movie should be watch for one reason. And that is for the special effects. I mean really how many people went to see a Ray Harryhausen movie for Shakespearean acting. Then the only question is if you like your Cheese Fast or Slow.

I haven't seen this in a long while, but from what I've read of the synopsis, it definitely isn't entirely accurate to the original Greek myths.

if you believe this, why bother posting?

I will cite 2 ways the film is superior. One is the special effects (yes I am one of those dinosaurs who prefers good stop motion to CGI), and more importantly the treatment of Perseus who is a young man coming of age, not a body builder Hercules type. The y may have strayed some from the myth, but they stayed true to essence of the story,

It is not our abilities that show who we truly are...it is our choices

reply

Quite the contrary, while neither is what I would call "great movie" the original is superior in virtually every way than the remake. The original has a better story, better pacing, better developed characters, more memorable Medusa battle, better hero and villains, a story more fitting in with the original myth, and less plot holes.

The only advantage the remake has is better special effects. And it relied entirely on that. The story was another revenge flick with actions scenes every five minutes to hold the audience's attention. They try to force a Christian good vs evil conflict with Zeus being a stand in for god as the loving and merciful father and Hades being a stand in for the devil who wants to over throw god and subjugate humanity. The man vs God theme falls apart because the movie tries to support the idea that Man does not need God and rejects his gifts. Yet Man can only defeat the devil with the gifts of God and since the devil promises to return still needs the protection of God. And that is only a start.

It's been a while since I saw the remake but from what I can remember Liam Neeson as Zeus (who for some reason was dressed like a medieval white knight) was the best thing about it. He at least brought a little twinkle to it.

Fun fact: Luke Evans, who played Apollo in the remake, later played Zeus in "Immortals". And in both you'd probably find yourself thinking "Is that Orlando Bloom?"

The 2010 version is cool but I prefer the original, I like the look of the real sets instead of all the CGI in the remake. The costumes are so much cooler in the old one, I do like the Djinn and scorpions in the new movie.

Having watched both, the original is far better. And it has nothing to do with nostalgia.

The scene with Medusa alone has more tension than the entirety of the remake. And Calibos is a fantastic villain.

The way I see it. Either movie should be watch for one reason. And that is for the special effects.

I disagree. The special effects in the remake are far more cartoony than the original. A huge sin considering it was made nearly 30 years later.

Let's be bad guys.

Especially since the remake had the gall to mock the original's effects, in the "Bubo in the garbage scene"

reply

Boo hoo. I thought it was a funny scene. Take it up with Sam because he's the one who hated it
