why no burning 2
the return of cropsy ?
shareBecause the first one underperformed at the box office. That's the long and the short of it.
shareYeah. Supposedly it went over budget, costing a total of $1.5 million and only grossed $700 thousand.
It was in theatres at the same time as F13 Part II, Happy Birthday to Me and Graduation Day.
Of 1981 slasher films here are the grosses, ranked;
Halloween II - $25.5 million
Friday the 13th: Part II - $21.7 million
Happy Birthday to Me - $10.6 million
Deadly Blessing - $8.3 million
The Funhouse - $7.8 million
My Bloody Valentine - $5.7 million
Student Bodies - $5.2 million
Night School - $1.6 million
Hell Night - $1.3 million
Final Exam - $1.3 million
Madman - $1.3 million
Graduation Day - $1.1 million
Eyes of a Stranger - $1.1 million
The Prowler - under $1 million (no specified figure)
I find it interesting looking at historical Box Office figures. Surprised HBTM & DB did so well.
One thing is for sure, The Burning has a much great legacy and fanbase that many of those movies that out grossed it.
As slashers go, The Burning isn't half-bad. It has some sensational gore effects from Tom Savini, the raft sequence being the most notorious. Plus it has early roles for Fisher Stevens, Holly Hunter, and Jason Alexander with a full head of hair. Add also a creepy synth score from Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman.

Honestly, The Burning without the sequels makes me love this movie even more. Like The Prowler.
shareThis movie was awful. That's probably why.
shareI’ve just seen this for the first time so I knew no sequels were made. I did think though, at the end, that Alfred would be the likely candidate for next Cropsy.
