DVD RELEASE NOW!!!

I'm with you. I think this movie needs a full on special dvd release. They should use the original movie poster image, do a widescreen transfer, the whole bit.

If a piece of crap like "Alien Dead" can get a full DVD release with commentary and extras for a starting price of $17, then certainly this movie can!

Heck, I might as well promote my website - http://www.andybob.com

It's doubtful this movie will get the "full" treatment,
I don't think it was commercially successful to begin
with, though it's a little bit of a cult hit.

reply

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if a piece of crap like "Alien Dead" can get a $17+ dollar DVD release with extras and commentary, then a movie like "The Boogens" sure as hell is worthy of one! ARGH! <major frustration> "Alien Dead" makes "The Boogens" look like "Citizen Kane" on a script level and like "Star Wars" on an special effects one.
Although TB doesn't reach anywhere near its level, John Carpenter's "The Thing" was a major flop at the time of its release too but its gotten all kinds of special DVD treatment, so hopefully they'll take a little pity on fans like us and throw us a bone when it come to this film.

There are a lot worse out there than The Boogens getting released on DVD...

Cheesy? So, some of the best horror films to come out of the 80's are cheesy, sure the creatures aren't that great, but this is an independent low-budget film from the 80's.

reply

Even if there were a DVD release, I doubt the video quality would exceed what you get on a VHS tape. You could practically buy the tape and convert it to DVD and add a nice simple menu (like a scan of the VHS cover).

how do i go about transfering a VHS of this movie to DVD if you could help me i would appreciate it this is my husbands favorite movie and i would like to do this for him as a gift

Apparently,at least for tv showings,Paramount Pictures holds the rights to "The Boogens".

Maybe we could get a petition started and convince the video division to do a Video/DVD release. or get Anchor Bay to put it out.

reply

Oh man, Paramount has the rights? Than we can pretty much hang up any hope of a DVD. Paramount, in my opinion, is by far the worst studio for DVDs. If they were reluctant to even release the Friday the 13th box set, which was their largest money making franchise, I doubt The Boogens will get even a glance. Even when Friday the 13th box set finally came out, it didn't live up to fan expectations and failed to feature even un-cut versions of the movies. So even if The Boogens were to get the DVD treatment, which is unlikely, it will be bare bones at most. Still though, I'd take that over nothing. I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and it scared the devil out of me. I'd love to see it again.

reply

There may be some hope because the entire management staff at Paramount got canned and replaced, so with luck we'll find that the new people in charge don't have their heads so deeply embedded in their @sses.

I've noticed that they've released another 80's Conway film called "Hangar 18", hopefully this means that the chances of this getting a DVD release are getting better.

reply

i want this on dvd too! i got to see it on the big screen. amazing!

reply

This movie did very, very well at the box-office when it played in theatres, so it is strange that nobody has put it out on DVD yet. Anne-Marie Martin (Wendy) starred in another thriller, Savage Harvest (1981), which was also decent. It was a major release from 20th Century Fox but did nothing at the box office. That has never even been on VHS, much less DVD.

If Paramount still owns the rights, then there's no telling when or in what condition a DVD will arrive. Their mistreatment of the F13 series on DVD (let's face it, the movies are crap, but they certainly have some value) shows that they don't want to be thought of as 'the studio that Jason built'.

Paramount has been sitting on the rights to Dario Argento's 'Four Flies on Grey Velvet' for years. It has NEVER been released on video in the US. Many distributors have asked to release this title, only to be turned away.

reply

What the hell is it with Paramount and why do they have apparently so much contempt for the fans of movies like this?

I don't begrudge them not wanting to distribute films of a particularly gorey nature, but why don't they sell the damn rights to someone who will treat the people who DO want to watch them with at least a modest level of respect?

reply

They were also supposed to release "Bugsy Malone",which they put out on VHS years ago,on DVD but pulled it without any warning. I'm hoping Lionsgate or Olive Films(Which also has rights to some Paramount titles. See thier website)will put it out,as well.

So? This still doesn't seem to be available on DVD. Anyone know if there are any plans to release it?

reply

Just read on wikipedia that Olive Films has sub-licensed the film from Paramount and will be releasing it on dvd soon...let's hope so!

I could be mistaken, but according to Amazon, "Four Flies" is due out on DVD in February. Here's to hoping for Boogens now!

It's out now on DVD, and it's got a commentary track featuring the director and the actress who played Trish.

If that's true, then why did Paramount release and handle the remake of Friday The 13th? Obviously, they do care even if the DVD's are bare bones.

Has it ever occurred to you guys that many of these older flicks like The Boogens don't have a lot of buyers, and that releasing them on DVD might not result in big sales, thereby not justifying the huge outlay of money to put them on DVD with all the bells and whistles you want?
