Body Heat is kind of a remake itself. “Inspired by” Double Indemnity is more accurate though. It was 37 years between the two and it’s been 39 years since BH so it’s about time.
Then someone can make a movie inspired by Body Heat. Shouldn't be that hard (because I'm sure it's been tried) to come up with this scenario of a man falling for a gal so hard he would go to the edge for her. There's probably an MC thread or two devoted to it, maybe.
But if a movie company called their film Body Heat and tried to replicate the original, I can't see it succeeding.
There would be no surprise, low budget factor, that veritas you feel when you don't know the actors and aren't overwhelmed by CGI and creepy attempts at realistic physical mayhem.
I taped it on VHS and watched it only a couple times or more, but I loved it. Nice cinematography, good pacing, creates a mood. It's really a noir classic, but it takes a groundswell of support to push it over that edge.
For now it's a cult classic from the time period, but it deserves more.
I tend to agree with @snepts about remakes and prefer to leave Body Heat just as it is.
How about this though? A sequel. With the original cast. Ned is out of prison. He enlists Teddy to help find Matty. Peter Lowenstein is now state Attorney General and gets wrapped up in things somehow (and still dances). Oscar is retired as police chief but still does some private investigation work. Let’s write a treatment!! :)
