George Lucas

How many people are aware George Lucas was the 'unofficial' Executive Producer?
It was repayment of a favour to Lawrence Kasdan, who came aboard and helped George with the script for The Empire Strikes Back when it was sorely needed (after Leigh Brackett's death), and would script Raiders Of The Lost Ark for him.

He did what Francis Ford Coppola once did for him, and helped shepard Kasdan's directorial debut. But left his name off the credits, because he thought audiences would get confused about his name on a neo noir, and would think of Star Wars.

I read that he put his name off because he didn't want to ruin his company image, not that he thought that people would think of Star Wars. This movie is not even close to Star Wars.

Well, as a contemperary of the times the film was made, I can tell you that having George Lucas or Lucasfilm anywhere on this project would have sent out a VERY different perception of what to expect.

Yup, I've heard about that before, Lucas really pushed Kasdan in the right direction. A friend worked on the film, he said Kasdan was the nicest/most humble person.
