You've made a good point.However the police are convinced Matty died in the boathouse (we aren't shown they buy any of Neds prison story ).So maybe that's it ;case closed and no need to find Mary Anne.

They checked on her initially but they wouldn't have been 'looking for her' ongoing at passport control. She was merely a witness to a will signing, not a witness to the crime.
Besides, in 1981 there weren't exactly real time updates from passport control. Matty would have had no problem leaving the country under her real name of Maryanne
Mary Anne needn't have taken a flight out of the country. She might have simply driven across the border into Mexico (no U.S. citizen used to need a passport to enter Mexico), then gone wherever she wanted. She probably had a few more fake ids up her sleeve, but she might also have figured out how to sneak into a country without showing a passport. She is clever enough to have pulled off any of these schemes.
